Because many people have asked for a weekend machine quilting retreat (usually people who can’t take classes during the week) I am offering a three day intensive quilting retreat at Meraki Stitch Studio in August. This is the studio space next to mine in Warren and is where I hold my retreats. This shortened version will cover almost everything I cover in the six week class, but in a shortened format. It also includes three meals - so no fuss, just quilting!

Take your machine quilting to the next level! This three day retreat will give you the skills, techniques and design ideas to confidently quilt complex motifs on your home sewing machine. Learn to respond to tension problems under the guidance of an experienced teacher. Topics include materials (thread, batting, needles), machine set up, walking foot designs, meandering variations, feathers, machine trapunto, continuous curves, micro fill and design elements. Slide shows, videos and on-machine exercises help teach concepts in a variety of ways to solidify your understanding.   My approach to quilting is based on the belief that quilting is half the creative processor making a quilt.  As a machine quilting teacher, longarm quilter, pattern designer, and art quilter, I try to help quilters build a quilting “vocabulary” of designs and motifs that fit into a variety of quilts.

This class is designed for the more experienced quilter.  Students will design and execute a quilt. Class time will focus on design principles, skill building, and stretching creative boundaries. Individualized instruction will focus on each student's theme, style and level of ability. Students may choose the style of quilt that suits them - whole cloth, pieced, appliqué, modern.  This is a class designed to build your confidence in creating your own designs and to bring your machine quilting to new levels. There will be an optional follow on class in 2020 in drafting patterns for publication and distribution.
