“Live in each season as it passes; breathe in the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”– Henry David Thoreau, WaldeWe spend our lives moving from building to building, often focused on our destination, overlooking the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us. This exhibit requires that artists step outside, literally, to observe this natural environment and then share the textures, colors and patterns as well as the emotions it evokes using fiber as the medium to communicate their vision Featured Artists:

Exhibit Concept:  Water: that transparent fluid that falls from the sky and makes up our streams, lakes and oceans and covers 71% of the earths surface.  It is an essential component for all life forms on earth and plays a significant role in our lives every day providing us with drinking and cooking water, agricultural irrigation and water to wash ourselves and clothing.  Rivers and oceans provide us a way to transport items all over the world, generate power using hydroelectricity and water and steam are used as a way to provide cooling and heating as well as a way to extinguish fire.
While it can also be a source of recreational pursuits such as swimming, boating, surfing, fishing, ice skating and skiing, it can also be a powerful source of destruction causing landslides, floods, tsunami’s, hurricanes, avalanches and cyclones.  Just as too much of it can be destructive, so can too little, causing droughts that spark wildfires and poor crop growing conditions which impact food supply.

Art as Quilt: Transitions in Contemporary Textile Media

SAQA MA/RI Regional exhibit Art As Quilt, Highfield Hall, Falmouth, MA

Art as Quilt is a juried exhibition of contemporary textile media that explores the subject of art as quilt. The word quilt implies a traditional 3 layered stitched approach but artists are encouraged to explore new and innovative ways to push beyond these boundaries through the use of techniques and materials. This exhibit will consist of works that represent unique approaches and interpretations of the theme and help illustrate the diversity of styles, techniques, and materials being used by the Studio Art Quilt Associates members. The reception will be Sunday, October 18 at 2:00 pm.
