Selling Art Quilts webinar now available on the SAQA website

Last week I sat in on an excellent Mentorship Webinar on Selling Art Quilts with panelists Frieda Anderson, Wen Redmond and Roxane Lessa.  It was recorded and is now available to stream on the SAQA website for SAQA members.  You can watch and listen to it anytime by logging on to the SAQA website here and selecting Member Resources > Professional Development > Mentorship Webinar recordings.

Craft Boston Spring show

The Craft Boston Spring show is just a few days away!


CraftBoston Spring is a selective display of 90 artists presented at The Cyclorama at The Boston Center for the Arts. A charming 19th-century brick building, the Cyclorama provides an intimate showing and shopping experience. Small in size, CraftBoston Spring ensures craft of the highest caliber. Spend the day looking at and learning about contemporary craft, meet the artists, and take home something fabulous.

Spotlight on Sandy Gregg!

Sandy Gregg’s work “Call for Entry” has been juried into an exhibit at Gallery 263, 263 Pearl St., Cambridge, MA. 

The exhibit is titled “Massachusetts” and all of the artists reside in the state.  The exhibit opening is Friday, March 29, from 7-9.  and will be on view until April 12.  Gallery hours are W-Sat, 12-7.


Sandy is also part of a group exhibit at the Bridgewater Public Library, 15 South Street, Bridgewater, MA. 


The exhibiting group is the Coastal Quilt Artists.  Library hours are M, T, W 9-8, Th 10-5, F, Sat 10-2.  The exhibit continues through the month of April.






Three Voices in Fiber is a three person exhibit of work by  Rosemary Hoffenberg, Valerie Maser-Flanagan and Sandy Gregg at the Newton Free Library for the month of April 2014.

 
The Library is located at 330 Homer St., in Newton, and gallery hours are M-Th 9-9; F 9-6; Sat 9; Sun 1-5.  There will be an opening reception on Saturday, April 5, 2-5, and that same weekend is Newton Open Studios so there will be lots to see.

 The exhibit at the Wayne Art Center will continue until May 3, and gallery hours are M-Sat 10-4.

Spotlight on Nancy Turbitt!

Nancy Turbitt is excited to announce that she is one of three New England artists who have a piece juried into an exhibition called "Butterflies and Their Beautiful Kin" opening in April 2014 at the Texas Quilt Museum.

The show will run through June 2014.  Sharon McCartney of Massachusetts and Judy Ross of Connecticut also have pieces in this exhibition of 34 contemporary quilt artists. Her piece, 'Mariposa', was also chosen, among a total of 26 quilts, to continue on for a touring show called "Butterfly Whirl: Contemporary Quilt Art" beginning with a show at the National Butterfly Center in Mission, Texas from August 15, 2014 through January 12, 2014, and continuing to tour through January of 2018. Other venues for the touring show are as of yet still unannounced.

SAQA NE Special Exhibit: “I ♥ New England!”

Theme/ Title of exhibit:  “I ♥ New England!”
Or: “You know you’re a New Englander when…”

For Special exhibit at World Quilt Show, Manchester, NH August 14-17, 2014

Open to any SAQA member residing in New England: (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT)

Entry forms must be received by June 1st, 2014.

Interpret the theme any way you wish, from abstract to pictorial etc. with a minimum perimeter size of 96” and a maximum perimeter size of 200”. 
Depending on quilt sizes, we are limited to 15-40 quilts for the space so the sooner you submit the better. 

New England is, after all, a state of mind!  So whether it’s the seasons (summer, almost winter, winter, still winter), mountains, lakes, people or potholes that inspire you, let your imagination run wild! 

The quilts must have stitching through all layers.  Any technique and surface design is acceptable.

Quilts must have a 4” hanging sleeve on upper back.

Exhibitors need to provide an Artist Statement “blurb’ card to hang with their piece.  These need to include name of maker, title of item and can also include more details plus a descriptive paragraph. (You will receive more info in acceptance e-mail)

Individual quilts may be insured for $100 up to $1000 each (please be realistic with values). Items valued at greater than $1000 require a written appraisal. Items can not be insured for greater than $5000 even with greater appraised value.  Insurance coverage excludes flood and earthquake.  If written appraisals are not provided on items valued at more than $1000, these items will be insured for a maximum of $1000.

Welcome to the new SAQA MA/RI regional blog!  Here is where you'll be able to find all the latest news and events happening in the MA/RI SAQA region.  You'll find several different ways to subscribe to this blog in the left hand side column so you'll always know when news has been posted here.

Not only will this blog be a place for you to catch up on all the latest news in the region but it's also a place for you to share your news with your fellow MA/RI region members.  If you've got news to share I want to know about it!  If you know of a exhibit or class that other members might want to check out email me the details so I can post it here.  Got some photos of an exhibit, class, lecture or art event?  Send them to me with descriptions and details and we'll post them here.
