Veronica Conaky Mays
has at least two quilts that will be featured
at the National African Quilt Convention in Lawrence, Kansas
July 11-14, 2018
One of her quilts, titled "Jim Crow, No Mo", is based on the Langston Hughes poem "Merry-Go-Round". The call for artists asked that they depict the Jim Crow South that Langston Hughes grew up in. She chose to place the kids in the foreground so that they are victorious.
The second quilt accepted into the exhibition is titled, "No One Knew", a piece in acknowledgment of the "#metoo" movement.

These next two quilts were donated as part of Veronica's Rhode Island state council of the arts grant.
The first one, titled "Black Regiment", went to the Newport County NAACP. It represents the black soldiers of the revolutionary war.
