SAQA MA/RI REGIONAL MEETING

RIVERSIDE ART IN SOMERSET, MA

Eighteen members of the MA/RI region got together on a warm June day to experience Riverside Art.  And what a great experience it was!  We were divided into two groups.  One group spent time with Stephanie learning all about designing framed artwork,  as well as practical demonstrations of framing quilt art using traditional framing, mats, glass, shadow boxes, and more.  The demonstration showed members that some framing tasks can be learned, and what tools were needed to frame a piece.

The second group was led by Kim, who demonstrated the enormous scanner, and how artwork can be beautifully reproduced onto different kinds of paper and canvas.  Reproducing your artwork allows you to make posters, prints, note cards, booklets, and more.  There is no end to what can be done with the scanner, a printer, and a work of art.

Members thoroughly enjoyed attending both sessions.  Besides the demonstrations, members wandered the store looking at original works of art and gifts, as well as an extremely well stocked art supply department.  Many tempting items were available for purchase.  The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.  If you were unable to attend on Saturday, you owe yourself a trip to this store.  You won't be disappointed.

A spirited discussion during the lunch break took place about PODs, crit groups, exhibitions, and volunteering.  After the business meeting and raffle, show and tell allowed members to share their latest works.  It was a great day!

Suzanne Munroe put together this meeting and did a great job.  She also volunteered to be the next co-representative of the MA/RI region.  Suzanne will be a welcome addition to the planning functions for the region.  Thanks Suzanne!
